Bob Askey
(October 28, 1931 – June 9, 2023)
Bob's etchings and paintings have won numerous awards. He displayed his art throughout the New England area and enjoyed participating in art shows with his family. He participated annually in one of his favorite shows, Keene’s Art in The Park. Bob was a well-respected member of the community and dearly loved by his friends and family.

Puzzle Possibilities
Fool's Gold puzzles can also be crafted with an irregular edge border. This makes it slightly more challenging to assemble. Mt. Whimsy, Desperados, Summer Place, The Generals, and Up, Up and Away are some examples that would work well with an irregular edge.

Bob Askey
Born and raised in Ohio, Bob Askey's talent for drawing emerged even before he entered elementary school. Encouraged by family and friends to continue developing his skills, he became the staff artist for both his high school and college newspapers producing illustrations and cartoons.
All of Bob's art is the product of his memory and imagination. After a few years of exploration and experimentation, today Bob enjoys working in many different media and styles—oil, water, acrylic, etching, pen & Ink, colored pencil, and graphite. Bob also worked with whimsical art—its media usually watercolor and ink. As for his oil paintings, most represent landscapes or scenics featuring perhaps a barn or an
old stone bridge.

*Sculpted: A cutting technique in which some of the wood is deliberately cut away to create an illusion of an image. In this puzzle, the two sculpted areas near the top form "bubbles" in the foam. |

Sculpting Cutting Style The "Up, Up and Away" puzzle shown at left displays an example of a cutting style called "sculpting." Notice in the upper left corner of the puzzle, there appears to be another hot air balloon in the sky.
Sculpting is a special cutting trick whereby the cutter carefully removes slight slivers of wood to reveal a hidden image or text. This "trick" is only discovered once the puzzle is assembled. Sculpting makes a puzzle more difficult because the jigsaw pieces on either side of the sculpted area do not always interlock. Not until the entire sculpted area is completed is it obvious to the assembler how these pieces interact with each other. Jigsaw puzzles crafted with special sculpted areas do cost extra. The cost will be determined by what is desired to be sculpted. Please call if you are interested in having your puzzle contain any sculpted areas.

"The Generals" is a puzzle crafted with an irregular edge. Foolish Figurals, or special cut figure pieces, (some refer to these as "whimsies"), can also be cut into the puzzle as well. In the example below, a helmet, crown, telescope, beer stein, pipe, and sword were crafted into the puzzle. |
