The wood used for a wedding puzzle project is 1/4" baltic birch. Our usual mahogany veneer on the backside of the puzzle is too dark to allow a regular pigment pen to work properly. The birch, left unfinished but sanded very smooth, allows for a nice light background (of the puzzle) so a regular pigment pen can be used...something similar to a fine point Sharpie®.

the puzzle was their wedding date, his and her names, and a special figure piece
that related to each of them (see image below).
