Ruth Sanderson
Growing up in Monson, MA, Ruth’s favorite place to play was in the woods. She spent many happy hours with friends at “Cat Rock,” not far from home. Her imagination came to life there—imagining magical creatures living in the tangled underbrush that she might catch a glimpse of.
Besides the woods, Ruth enjoyed Black Stallion books, anxiously awaiting each new adventure. These stories fed into another passion—drawing horses. She decided early on that she wanted to make a living as an artist.
Ruth graduated from the Paier College of Art in Connecticut in 1974, and since then, has illustrated many books for both children and young adults including: The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Night Before Christmas, The Enchanted Wood, Cinderella, The Secret Garden, Heidi, and the Black Stallion and Nancy Drew series.
